London Assembly member and Teddington Councillor Stephen Knight has effectively lost his seat on the Greater London Assembly (GLA).
It has been confirmed the Liberal Democrat has been listed as a distant fifth choice on his party's candidate list.
He was elected in second choice, along with Caroline Pigeon, in 2012 by just nine votes but the demotion has all but ended his hopes of reelection.
Speaking to the Richmond and Twickenham Times, he said: "I am very disappointed.
"I have known for a while but it is still deeply disappointing.
"I shall clearly be looking for a new challenge next May and I am keeping an open mind."
He added he felt his left-wing politics "may have counted against him" in the party ballot.
Coun Knight is a former deputy leader of Richmond Council and led Richmond's Lib Dems until May, when Councillor Gareth Roberts replaced him as leader.
His partner, Councillor Jennifer Churchill recently defected to Labour following Jeremy Corbyn's selection as leader.
More to follow.
