The views of a six-year-old girl over proposals for Ham Close have gone viral via a video posted to Facebook.
Ham Close residents were informed in July that three of five potential options for the site’s development had been dropped and the area would either undergo wholesale redevelopment or be left as it is.
July 2015: Total demolition or nothing at all: It's one or the other for Ham Close
Josie Day asked her daughter Brooke what she thought of the proposals and managed to catch the six-year-old’s reaction on film and the video, posted on Facebook on July 29, has had more than 4,300 views.
Brooke’s criticisms of the plans include: “The children can’t play in the park because that is going to be[come] a little park.
“Ham is going to get so busy.”
The wholesale redevelopment option involves the demolition of the current 192-home development and erection of 400 new units on Ham Green and the existing shops in Ham Street.
The St Richards CE Primary School pupil added: “It is lovely how it is and now they have got to change it all into bloody blocks of flats.”
Josie Day, 34, has lived in Ham Close for 28 years and said she has been stopped in the street by people who have seen the video and Brooke has even been given a free ice cream.
She said: “Brooke is very inquisitive and a very bright girl, she is not your typical six-year-old.
“I explained the plans to her and she said that is not a good idea.”
She added: “I don’t think we can afford to have that many more people in the area and it would be nice to redevelop what is already there.
“It is just ridiculous, you can’t even get a doctor’s appointment here as it is.”
Brooke also wrote a letter to Prince Charles expressing her concern about the plans and received a response from Natalie Barrows, his assistant private secretary.
