A World War Two hand grenade found in a Twickenham garden closed a road and brought trains to a standstill this afternoon.
Lines were suspended between Richmond and Twickenham after British Transport Police (BTP) were called at 12.20pm to reports of a hand grenade being found.
Nearby Arlington Road was closed for an hour and seven minutes and two homes were evacuated.
A spokeswoman from Twickenham Police Station said: "Explosive officers came and removed the device safely and disabled it."
A BTP spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and the line was stopped while a search was carried out.
"An old World War Two grenade was recovered."
Arlington Road and all train lines have now reopened.
In July a World War Two grenade was found in a Southfields garden.
