A woman, pulled from the River Thames at Teddington Lock by the RNLI and London Air Ambulance on Saturday morning, died despite the rescue efforts of emergency crews.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called at 10.52am and sent an ambulance crew, car responder and air ambulance.

The woman, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lifeboat service was called at about 11.05am to reports of a "casualty in the water".

Andy Butterfield, of Teddington RNLI, said the team was conducting a training exercise so were able to launch the lifeboat within two minutes.

He said: “She was over by the lock islands and the guys managed to get her out and started CPR immediately before handing her over to the air ambulance.

“There was quite a crowd of people and all the emergency services were there.”

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police, which was called at 10.46am, said: “Police believe they know the identity of the woman and the next of kin have been informed.

“Police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

“A report will be compiled for the coroner.”
