Hounslow Council's fostering service has received a glowing report from Government inspectors.

The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) found that the service provided excellent support for its foster carers, has a committed and motivated staff team, encourages and supports the self-development of carers and has excellent systems in place for listening to children and young people.

The inspectors also praised the opening of a resource centre specifically for looked-after children and the setting up of a support group for teenage carers.

Councillor Robert Kinghorn, executive member for education and children, said: "CSCI's report comes as no surprise to me. I have met many of our foster carers and given certificates to thank them for all they do for children in our care.

"One only has to read what they have done, how well those in their care have succeeded, or talk to them to realise the dedication they bring to their roles. I deeply admire them and add my deepest gratitude to them for all they do.

The manager of the fostering team, Tom O'Neill, said: "Our foster carers make a lasting difference to a child's life chances. I hope our continuous success over the past year will encourage more people to apply to become foster carers."
