Patients are benefiting from a refurbished x-ray department thanks to a £1.1m investment in the service.
Pride of place in the suite at Croydon University Hospital is a 56-inch monitor, which displays x-ray and ‘x-ray video’ fluoroscopy images.
It also can display real-time patient monitoring data and other medical images in patient medical files such as ultrasound and MRI.
X-rays are clearer than they were on the old system and the displays can also show both current and previous x-ray images side by side, or real-time ultrasound scans alongside the current x-ray image.
The unit was designed by the hospital’s clinicians with input from patients and includes separate men’s and women’s rooms to improve privacy and dignity.
