A crack house has been closed following complaints from residents about addicts injecting themselves, visitors at all hours and intimidating behaviour.

The flat in Auriol House, Brentford, which was being used by drug dealers to sell heroin and crack cocaine, created an epidemic of antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood.

But now Hounslow Community Safety Partnership, a collaboration of organisations including the police and the council, has acted to bring to an end to the drugs scourge.

Officers from Brentford Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) served a closure notice on the Avenue Road property, which was supported on Friday, February 16, at Feltham Magistrates' Court when an official closure notice was made.

The flat was closed off on Monday, February 19, and will stay boarded up for three months in an attempt to rid the area of drugs and antisocial behaviour.

Addicts would smoke and inject drugs inside the property and other communal areas and residents' lives were blighted by their intimidating behaviour day and night.

Sergeant Nathan Fane, of Brentford SNT, said: "Residents in Avenue Road and adjoining streets have been telling us it has been intolerable to live there while these criminal activities have been going on.

"We're very pleased to have secured this closure and hopefully it will lead to a quieter, safer area."

Residents kept police informed of goings-on around Auriol House and this intelligence proved to be vital in obtaining the closure order.

The address has now been completely sealed behind a steel door with the flat's bona fide resident moved to alternative accommodation.

Councillor Phil Andrews, lead member for housing and community safety, said: "With our partners at Hounslow police we have been able to act and hopefully this will lead to peace of mind and reassurance for those people who have had their lives interrupted by this criminal activity."
