A warning has been issued after an alleged attempted abduction outside a primary school this morning.

A man in a black BMW allegedly approached an eight-year-old boy outside the gates of Heathfield Infant and Junior School in Cobbett Road, Twickenham, at 8.50am.

The man is believed to have told the boy he knew his dad and that he had to take him to see him.

The boy did not get into the car and ran home to tell his mother, who reported the incident to the police.

The driver is white, in his 30s, has dark hair and a clean shaven face.

He was also thought to be wearing a blue t-shirt.

Police are carrying out house-to-house enquiries, have increased high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area and are examining CCTV footage.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said they are working closely with primary schools in the borough, the local authority and relevant partners to update them on any developments.

The spokeswoman said it is an isolated incident and currently just an allegation.

Parents are also urged to speak to their children about the importance of not getting into a stranger's car.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
