Most people would struggle to run marathon, but one man has taken on the ultimate challenge.

Rob Young, known as Marathon Man UK, aims to break the world record for the number of marathons run in a year, and takes on his 200th 26.2-mile run in Richmond Park today.

Mr Young, of Rothesay Avenue, East Sheen, passed the six-month mark in his challenge this week.

He is already 12 marathons ahead of his schedule to beat Ricardo Abad’s world record of 366 marathons in 365 days.

While completing the challenge, the kilt-wearing former solider is raising funds for two charities close to his heart - Dreams Come True and the NSPCC.

Mr Young, 31, has previously spoken out about his abusive childhood and father who used to beat him regularly, and wants to do all he can to help children in difficult situations.

He said: "Pushing myself on a daily basis and raising money for charity is a dream come true for me. I had a difficult childhood and do not want other children to have a similar experience to me.

"I have always wanted to raise money to help children born into less fortunate situations."

Prior to this year, Mr Young had never run a marathon and took on the challenge after his fiancée bet him he could not run the iconic distance.

The bet later escalated to 50 consecutive marathons and developed into his attempt to beat the current world record holder.
