Two scouts from Richmond have been chosen to represent their country at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.

Max Cotton, 13, and 16-year-old Samantha Grebot will be part of a group of 36 people, aged between 14 and 17, who will be guided by volunteer leaders.

They were selected at an event at Polyapes Scout Campsite where they completed a variety of activities and tests.

Max, from 2nd Teddington Scout Group said: "I have been lucky enough to have travelled to many places already and I want to keep exploring.

"Recently I won an election to become a Richmond youth councillor in my borough.

"I will bring this experience of being a strong leader as well as working with teams to the Jamboree in Japan."

Over the 10-day Jamboree, they will fly out to Tokyo with 2,400 Scouts and Guides from the UK before heading to a specially-built site in Kirara-hama.

Samantha, from the Burton Explorer Scout Unit, and Max will now bond with the unit from south-west and south-east London, learning how to live and work together.

Chief Scout Bear Grylls said: "Congratulations to Samantha and Max and all the other young people who have been selected to represent their communities at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.

"Over the course of the Jamboree these young people will be able to meet people from around the world, take part in amazing adventures and experiences and be challenged to think about global issues in a new light."
