A garden in Twickenham will be transformed into a music venue for one day only to raise funds for a national music charity.

Fulwood Gardens resident David O’Keeffe decided to put on the gig in aid of Youth Music’s Give a Gig fundraising campaign to support disadvantaged children through music-making.

Jazz duo Blue Croon will headline the gig, West End actor David Benson will perform Noel Coward songs and soul singer Ione Mai will preview her latest single.

Young musicians from the area will also play throughout the afternoon.

O’Keeffe came up with the idea for the garden concert when he was trying to think of a venue he could get for free.

He says: "I knew my gig wasn’t going to be big enough for a large venue and I didn’t want to have to spend money or haggle prices on a performance space.

"So I suddenly thought, why not just have it in the garden?"

Along with enjoying new music, the concert will provide an opportunity for neighbours to get to know each other.

O’Keeffe says: "I’m hoping it will be a street party, garden party and music gig all rolled into one.

"I’ve invited everyone on the street as in recent years many new people have moved into the area but not had a chance to get to know their neighbours.

"Fingers crossed for sunshine but we’ll be prepared for rain as well."

Garden gig in aid of Youth Music’s Give a Gig; Fulwood Gardens, Twickenham; August 25, concert starts at 3pm, music finishes at 7.30pm; free entry, donation requested but not obligatory; advance ticket only available by emailing davidgardengig@gmail.com.
