A 12ft scarecrow will be the centrepiece of a harvest-themed festival taking place on Kew Green this September.

Kew Green Harvest Moon Festival will feature a host of attractions including like folk music, workshops where visitors can try their hand at bread, butter and cheese-making, folklore storytelling and traditional craft demonstrations.

The two-day event, which will celebrate the arrival of autumn, will also showcase a wide range of fresh hot and cold foods, groceries and hand-crafted items alongside a bar serving ales and cider.

Paul Kennedy, event coordinator at Market Square Group, said: "This will be the first time we have staged a Harvest Moon Festival and we are delighted to be bringing this new experience to Kew Green.

"We have an exciting array of fantastic family-friendly entertainment, dining and educational opportunities lined-up for the local community to enjoy."

A harvest supper will also be available for visitors to enjoy and a stage at the barn will showcase live country and folk music acts including CoCo and the Butterfields, who appeared at Glastonbury this year.

And in true harvest festival style, a collection point will be set up for visitors to donate food to Richmond Foodbank.

Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Jane Boulton says: "The council is delighted to host this exciting new festival with its wide variety of attractions and entertainment for all the family to enjoy."
