A caring cafe has opened in Whitton for people with dementia to enjoy a coffee or lunch with their carers and families.

Run by Crossroads Care and the Alzheimer's Society, it is part of the Carers' Hub service commission by Richmond Council and Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group.

Mayor of Richmond Councillor Jane Boulton attended the opening of the cafe at the Homelink Centre in Hospital Bridge Road on August 2.

She said: "It has become an invaluable service which is why I did not hesitate to select Homelink as one of my chosen charities for the year."

Sue Hodder, from Homelink, said: "We are absolutely delighted that this service is being run from Homelink. "The fact that 60 people attended on the very first day of opening highlights the need for this service this side of the borough."

Crossroads Care originally launched the first Caring Cafe in 2002 at Sheen Lane Day Centre.

The Caring Cafe will now be run from Homelink on the first Saturday of the month and from Sheen Day Centre on the third Saturday of each month.
