The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix was won by the Itailian cyclist Giorgia Bronzini yesterday.

She managed to outpace dutch competitior Marianne Vos in the final few metres to claim the prize.

British cyclists did themselves proud in the all-female lap race, making up seven of the top-ten finishers.

Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead was third, British road-race champion Eileen Roe finished fourth, and Olympic gold medal winner Laura Trott was fifth.

The 1.3mile lap race circuited around London’s St James’ Park.

It started at 5.05pm yesterday, and was followed by the youth girls race at 6.15pm, and the youth boys race at 7pm.
