Burglaries at churches and a vicarage have sparked a police appeal for information on the whereabouts of a 46-year-old man.

Officers want to speak to David Spencer, of no fixed address, about five offences that took place dating back to last month, including three in Richmond.

Two churches, St Andrew’s in Church Road, Ham, and Barn Church in Atwood Avenue, Kew, were broken into between 5pm on Friday, July 4, and 10am on Saturday, July 5, and money was stolen.

Between 6pm on Saturday, July 5, and 7am on Sunday, July 6, All Hallows Vicarage in Chertsey Road, Twickenham, was broken into where a collection tin was forced open and cash was taken.

Police have increased patrols around churches in the borough and officers are advising church managers on building security.

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Murray, of Richmond CID said: "These churches have been systematically broken into and collection money stolen from inside.

"We have pursued numerous lines of enquiry and are keen to speak to David Spencer as soon as possible.

"We would like David Spencer to contact us, or if someone has information on his whereabouts, please tell us."

Officers are keen to speak to Mr Spencer about another two incidents, in Ealing and Kensington, both in June, as well as older cases dating back to April.

Anyone with information regarding Mr Spencer’s whereabouts is asked to contact Richmond CID on 020 8721 5932 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
