A woman threatening to jump off a footbridge in Twickenham had to be talked down by police last night.
The woman, in her mid-20s, appeared to be in distress and caused the closure of the A316 Chertsey Road at 7pm yesterday.
Officers succeeded in talking the woman down from the bridge.
The incident caused major traffic delays in Whitton and Twickenham.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called at about 7pm on July 2 to reports of a woman who appeared to be in distress on the A316 footbridge.
"Officers temporarily closed the road while the woman, who is in her mid 20s, was taken to safety.
"The incident was stood down at 9.30pm."
