Milkman makes his last delivery after 50 years of milk rounds
A milkman’s 50-year career selling bottles to people across Hampton has come to a dairy tale ending.
Peter Fry, who started his job in June 1964, will deliver his last bottles of milk on Saturday, June 28.
The grandfather and father-of-two delivered to the same roads in Hampton and Hampton Hill for 24 years and got to know his customers well.
The 65-year-old said: "I have been part of the milk industry since I was 15 and I have loved being part of the communities I have served.
"I have known some people on my round for years, there is a couple who gave birth to a baby boy on the week I started my milk round, I started serving to the now grown up boy last month.
"I will always treasure my years as a milkman but I’m now looking forward to being able to spend more time with my family."
Depot manager Judd Whitelaw said Mr Fry would be sorely missed.
He said: "To many of his customers Peter became someone they can talk to in confidence, they told him about their worries and he was always happy to provide a listening ear, even if it meant his round took longer than it should."
