A careers event aimed at helping unemployed people back into work was held in Twickenham on Monday.

The evening was organised by Dr Tania Mathias, councillor in Hampton Wick and parliamentary candidate for Twickenham in next year's general election.

Held at the Cole Court Centre, it provided advice and guidance for people seeking new or first-time jobs.

Dr Mathias said: "I am impressed that many businesses in the Twickenham area were kind enough to volunteer their time and expertise to meet, and discuss ideas, with people who were keen to explore the options for a better future in work.

"There was also an opportunity to discuss CVs and job applications.

"Looking for work when unemployed, or searching for a career change, can be a difficult and sometimes a stressful experience.

"The evening engendered a community spirit that showed how businesses in the Twickenham area are helping local students and job seekers into the right career."

Jo Thompson, project control manager at GBM Minerals Engineering Consulting, said: "It was great to see so many enthusiastic local job seekers and I hope we were able to provide useful feedback and advice."
