A soap star will call the shots on who is top dog at Kew Midsummer Fete on Saturday.

Katherine Dow Blyton, who plays Emmerdale’s new vicar Harriet Finch will be the judge for this year’s dog show during the fete at Kew Green on June 21.

It is not the first famous appearance at the contest, with Lesley Sharp, Anthony Calf and Downton Abbey's Lesley Nicol having all entered their dogs before.

Another highlight at the fifth year of the fete will be the eight-a-side tug of war, with schools, pubs and streets all signing up.

Other attractions at the fete, which runs from 11am to 6pm, include a petting farm, beat the goalie, more than 100 stalls and a craft marquee.

All fete profits will be donated to charity and it is hoped the festivities will raise £50,000.
