The great-great-great granddaughter of a former Kew Gardens director spent the day admiring his paintings and work this week.
Emily Jovanovski, 21, travelled from Melbourne, Australia, to visit her second cousin, Fiona Green, 70, who lives in Totnes, Devon.
Miss Jovanovski is a direct relative of Sir Joseph Hooker and also visited his grave at the Church of St Anne in Kew on Wednesday, June 4.
Ms Green said: βIt was very good. We saw some wonderful archive material and paintings.β
In 1887, Sir Joseph was bestowed with Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India, one of the highest honours, by Queen Victoria.
