A nursery manager allegedly stole money from work and used her boss’s credit card to pay for a dating website.

Charlene van Rensburg, 33, is charged with stealing cash from Buttons Day Nursery, Teddington, during an 11-month period from December 2012 to November 2013.

Miss van Rensburg, of Maguire Drive, Richmond, was employed by the nursery as a manager while the alleged offences, totalling £23,000, took place.

She appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 3, charged with one count of theft by employee and one count of possessing articles for use in fraud.

It is alleged she used the owner’s credit card for her own gain and accepted cash payments from parents without recording them on the system.

The nursery, which has centres in Hanwell and Hampton, offers care to children from birth to six years old.

Miss van Rensburg, who has not yet entered a plea, will return to Kingston Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on June 17.
