Jessica Eddie hopes to settle some unfinished business at Rio 2016 having missed out on medals at two Olympic Games, and she says the hard work starts now.

Eddie has been selected in the women’s eight boat for the European Championships, and although she is now 29 and one of the older members of the crew, she insists her experience has made her hungrier than ever.

She finished fifth in the same boat at both London and Beijing, in 2008, but having trained full-on through the winter she is raring to kick off the new season.

She said: “We’ve come through a wet and windy winter, which is pretty horrible when you do an outdoor sport, so it’s the start of the season for us, and everyone is hungry to go and race.

“We’ve pretty much forgotten London now and got our sights set on South America.

“As professional athletes we do our training for the next Games, that’s the way we are, what we’re all about.

“The London thing was incredible and I think that energy took us a long way, but you soon hit reality when you come back to training.

“A lot of the team retired after London so there’s fresh faces and you can’t dwell on what’s happened at the Olympics any more.”

Eddie has been involved with London Rowing Club for two years, having previously rowed with the London University club, and she is delighted to represent the club at international level.

“It’s a very old and prestigious club,” she said. “And it’s great that I can represent them on an international basis.

“Me and Imogen [Walsh] and Mark [Aldred] normally see each other down there and the club’s really good to us.”
