An urgent multi-agency meeting was held this week to discuss knife crime and how best to warn young people of the dangers of carrying knives.
The meeting, held at the Civic Centre, Twickenham, on Monday, May 19, was in response to various incidents involving knives in the past month.
Richmond Council will work with police, schools and colleges in coming weeks and months to raise awareness of the danger of knives.
Police installed a temporary knife arch at Richmond College for all staff and students on Wednesday, May 21.
A statement from the college said: “Over the years, the college has developed a good working relationship with the local police and works collaboratively on a number of crime prevention campaigns and the day to day safety for the community.
“Although this initiative is a result of last week’s incident, the installation of temporary knife arches is part of the college’s planned crime prevention campaign and they will be installed again on a temporary basis in the future.”
