A man who died of a suspected drugs overdose in Kingston on Friday has been named locally as Teddington resident William Boots.

Mr Boots, 43, died inside a flat in Perry Court, Old London Road, in the early hours of Friday, May 16.

A 46-year-old man, understood to be a resident of the block of flats, has been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and bailed until July 4.

A friend of Mr Boots, who was known as Billy, said: "He was a very hard working man.

"He liked a beer, but this is something that never occurred.

"He was no trouble at all. He was a big softie."

The friend said Mr Boots was a father of four who lived with his wife in Teddington.

He was also a grandfather, the friend said.

Mr Boots used to work as a technician at Teddington Tyres, in Kingston Road, Teddington.

He was working for a cleaning company when he died, the friend said.

Paramedics were called to Perry Court at about 2.30am on Friday, May 16, to reports of a man having a cardiac arrest.

They tried unsuccessfully to save Mr Boots.

A Perry Court resident who did not give their name, said: "I heard the doorbell go and it was the police.

"I asked what was happening. They said there had been an incident but that's all they would say."

Perry Court is an affordable homes development managed by housing association Paragon.
