A quiz winner bagged $1bn cash at a charity quiz in Ham, but the money could be worth less than a pint.
The quiz night at the New Inn on Ham Common on May 4 raised more than £500 for the Ham and Petersham SOS, who care for the local elderly and disabled.
Quizmaster Steve Hawkes said: “Yes, it is true, we did give a billion dollars cash and a bottle of champagne to the lucky winners - admittedly the champagne was not vintage, but at least the billion dollars were genuine.
“They were in fact Zimbabwean dollars and could well be worth less than a pint.
“The team with the cherished prize for coming last could well fare better as they received a lottery ticket for next week.”
Cash raised at the quiz nights goes towards the £30,000 needed to buy a new community minibus.
