Whitton turned out to show its English pride at the weekend, with the high street at the centre of superb St George’s Day celebrations.

More than 6,000 people got involved in the fun, with motorbikes and scooters kick-starting the party.

The Royal British Legion Youth Marching Band also took part in the parade, watched on by Twickenham MP Vince Cable and mayor of Richmond Councillor Meena Bond.

Bridget Clements, Whitton town centre manager, said: “It is worth all of the work we at the Whitton Business Association put into staging this Annual event when you see Whitton High Street full of people of all ages having a great time enjoying all that is on offer.

“The event is also a great way to showcase the recent improvements which have been taking place in this high street which are making it such a good place to shop.”

As well as live music, children had the chance to take part in traditional games such as hook-a-duck.

Dr Cable even found time to visit a human fruit machine.
