Festival fans can enjoy a summer day and night of sport, music, beer and food at the newly rebranded Summer Social.

The one-day festival, previously under the guise of Rugby Rocks, sees sports teams from all over the country compete in tournaments against the backdrop of food stalls, activities and music.

This year will see 250 teams, which include rugby sevens, tag rugby, netball and lacrosse, battle it out at Richmond Athletic Ground before partying into the night to a selection of DJs.

Rob Westworth, who came up the idea four years ago with his business partner, says the festival has been re-branded to focus on all sports, rather than just rugby.

He says: “That’s the great thing about these events – regardless of your ability there is a tournament to suit and once the sport is complete, win or lose everyone lets their hair down.

“The play hard, party hard ethos in sport is definitely a prominent feature.”

The main stage is a 40m outdoor raised platform offering a 360 degree view of the artists.

Rob says: “We think that will really bring the music to life this year.”

Music acts lined up to play include Felon, Benji Boko, Joshua Roberts and Sharkbait.

As well as the music and sport, ticketholders can take part in zorbing and jump off a giant pole on to an inflatable mat.

Rob says: “We see it as players bringing their friends and families along to join in the fun.

“It is a great day out for all the family to come and watch some sport and have a good time.”
