Keep a lookout: The oak processionary moth
As summer approaches, so does the return of the oak processionary moth, a tree pest that feeds primarily on oak trees and can harm humans.
Richmond Council has commissioned specialist pest controllers to inspect and spray trees and destroy the moths’ larvae.
The council has also asked people to keep an eye out for the oak processionary moth and its larvae and report any sightings.
In addition to the damage the moths do to trees and woodlands in England, their hairs carry a toxin that can cause significant irritation to human and animals, particularly the eyes, skin and throat.
