More than 300 schoolchildren took part in an art competition to raise awareness of recycling and food waste.

The task was to design a poster, to be put on Richmond borough’s waste and recycling trucks and encourage people to think about recycling and food waste.

The competition, organised by Richmond Council and Veolia Environmental Services was won by Eve Dickson, from Teddington School.

Richmond Council cabinet member for environment Councillor Pamela Fleming said: “I am thrilled that young people are helping us lead the way in encouraging more people to recycle their food waste.”

Coun Fleming judged the entries together with Nigel Ray, head of waste and recycling at Richmond, and Franco Murphy, from Veolia Environmental Services Richmond.

Mr Murphy said: “Eve’s winning entry is going to look fantastic on our recycling and refuse trucks and we hope it helps encourage Richmond residents to keep on recycling.”

Jessica Hornibrook, from Hampton Infant School, and Anah Crowley, from St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, made the second and third best posters.
