Hampton Wick roadworks cause huge tailbacks through Kingston and Surbiton

Traffic misery in Kingston and Surbiton is set to continue until Friday morning to allow Thames Water to complete emergency water main repairs in Hampton Wick.

A diversion was due to be lifted at 1pm today.

Traffic jams in Ewell Road this morning

The road works in High Street caused rush hour traffic tailbacks as far as Ewell Road in Surbiton this morning.

High Street is closed northbound between Kingston Bridge and Lower Teddington Road, with a diversion in place affecting bus routes 281 and 285.

Buses were disrupted this morning as at least one 71 bus stopped in Surbiton without continuing to Kingston.

Traffic over Kingston Bridge was heavy as early as 7am today.

Avoid if youi can. The knock-on impact last night extended all the way back to the one-way system and out to London Road and Kingston Hill. perhaps if the Kingston Highways bods re-phased the traffic lights around the one-way system, that could temporarily alleviate the grid-lock.
