Whatever the weather, plenty of sunshine will be brought to Richmond next month with a special one-off gala performance in tribute to comedian Eric Morecambe.

Thirty years on from the death of one of Britain’s best-loved comics, Bob Golding is stepping into his large shoes for the show.

As part of its national tour, Morecambe, written by Tim Whitnall, comes to Richmond Theatre to celebrate the life of a man who hit all the right notes.

From Morecambe Pier to the last days of music-hall to Glenda Jackson, Morecambe offers a moving and funny portrait of the affectionate man with funny bones.

Bob Golding, who plays Eric, has had a varied career as an actor, a director, voice artist and musician.

Eric’s son and the show’s associate producer Gary Morecambe says: “Bob is a family friend and never fails to astonish us with his knowledge and understanding of my father, Eric Morecambe.

“On stage, his performance captures the spirit of Eric, and cleverly delivers the important bits of his story in a whistle-stop tour of his life that is quite astounding to behold.

“I never get bored watching him in full Eric flow and am delighted to be a small part of the team bringing back this unique performance to theatres around the country.”

It is a show that is sure to put a smile on the faces of all those who go to see it - just like Eric himself used to and still does.

Morecambe; Richmond Theatre, the Green, Richmond; March 30, 7.30pm; tickets £21.50 from box office; call 0844 8717651 or visit atgtickets.com/richmond for further information.
