Former England international Graeme Le Saux visited Battersea’s Bed Head FC to deliver a speech on encouraging nominations for the FA’s People’s Choice awards.

Bed Head FC won last year’s FA Charter Standard Development Club national award and played host for Le Saux.

The former Chelsea left back said: “We cannot underestimate the importance of grassroots football, giving young players access to the game in a safe and welcoming environment.

“Clubs like this one, and their volunteers, who support and organise clubs and leagues, play a vital role in the community’.

“I would urge everyone to take just a few minutes to nominate these volunteers for this year’s FA Community Awards."

After his speech Le Saux was involved in a training session with the U11s and also signed autographs.

Bed Head FC were founded by Laurence Batty, former Fulham player and Norwich coaching staff, in partnership with Anthony Mascolo, one of the founders of Toni & Guy hairdressers.

People’s Choice Awards, rewarding outstanding contributions to grassroots football include volunteer of the year and coach of the year among others.

Nominations for The FA Community Awards are now open, and to vote for a football volunteer, club or league, go to mcdonalds.co.uk/awards.
