A 100-year-old woman has said prayer is her secret to a long and happy life.
Hilda Burney turned 100 on February 17 and celebrated with friends and family in her care home, The Elders, on Epsom Road where she has lived for 10 years.
Born in Manchester in 1914, Mrs Burney worked at the family printing press before she met her husband Ted, and they moved to Middlesbrough where they lived for almost 60 years.
The Burneys had two children who they taught the importance of prayer and they also took in a 17-year-old niece when they were in their late 50’s.
Mrs Burney was widowed in 1979 and moved to The Elders in Ewell in 2004 to be close to her family.
She attends Epsom Christian Fellowship most Sundays.
