Officers at Hampton police station will drive a convoy of historical cars and motorbikes to Scotland Yard to mark the station’s closure.

Hampton police station, in Station Road, is being prepared for sale and will be shut in March.

The station houses the Met Police’s historical fleet of seven cars and seven bikes dating from 1945 to present.

Detective Sergeant of the road traffic investigation unit at Hampton, Phil Haimes, said: “The idea is to drive them all on mass to New Scotland Yard and then on to Hendon where they will be based.

“It should be a nice send off.”

The convoy is due to set off from the station at 11am on Wednesday, February 26, and DS Haimes invited people to line the way and watch the spectacle, which will mark the end of an era.

The cars in the historical fleet include a black 1984 Wolseley, which featured in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee review in 1977 and the MPS Commissioner’s 175th review in 2004.

A blue special branch protection squad 1973 Rover P6, which was used to protect top people in the 70s during IRA troubles and was a dedicated royalty and Prime Ministerial protection vehicle, will also included.
