A man who lives in the road where Patrick Lawless was “fatally punched” told a court what he saw that night.

Nathan Eva lives in Field Lane and told Kingston Crown Court on the evening of the fight he had been out at dinner with his wife for her birthday.

He said they arrived home at about midnight and saw a group of four men and a woman in Field Lane.

Mr Eva told the court one man who seemed agitated was on his mobile phone talking quickly.

He said another man also seemed agitated and had his fists clenched and the woman was shouting.

He said: “The woman was screaming, shouting very loud. That’s all I remember she was screaming at the top of her voice.

“She said ‘he said he spat in my face, full in my face with blood’. She said it about five or six times. She just repeated it one after another like she was trying to get a point across.”

Mr Eva told the court something felt wrong and he thought there may have been a fight previously.

He said: “To be honest with you I just wanted to get from my car to my flat as quickly as possible.”

Mr Eva said at about 12.30am he saw blue flashing lights and he went outside for a cigarette, when where he saw an ambulance and police car.

He said: “They were both parked in the middle of the road. The ambulance staff was on the pavement working on someone- CPR."”

The trial continues.
