A teenager was left with two black eyes and gashed eyebrow after he was bottled in an unprovoked attack at Mortlake train station.

British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for witnesses after the 18-year-old, who was sitting alone on the platform, was approached by another man who hit him with a beer bottle and punched him in the head shortly after 8.30pm on Friday, January 17.

Police said the attack was directly after a short argument between the two and left the victim with two black eyes and a bleeding eyebrow which needed stitches.

Detective constable Rachel Smith said: “Without warning, the suspect then swung at the victim with a beer bottle he was holding, which hit his head before punching him in the head a number of times.”

BTP is appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the attack to come forward with information.

DC Smith said: “Violence of any kind on the railway network is completely unacceptable and we will do everything in our power to identify the person responsible and deal with them accordingly.”

Anyone with information is asked contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference LSA/B5 of 12/02/14, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
