The risk of flooding continues as the water levels on the River Thames are expected to rise further.

The Environment Agency’s flood alert for the riverside area between Hampton and Thames Ditton to Teddington, including Hampton Wick and Kingston, remains in place.

The river has spilled into the floodplain in many areas along the river and Broom Road in Teddington is badly flooded, with people advised not to drive through the water.

The flood warning also remains in place for properties in Hampton and Hampton Wick, including Barge Walk, Hampton Court Palace Golf Club and Hampton Court Road.

The Environment Agency said: “The River Thames at Hampton has risen in response to rainfall over the weekend and we are expecting the river to continue to rise slowly over the next five days.

“The current river forecast suggests that river levels in this area will be higher than those seen in January 2014 and 2003.

“Further property flooding is expected closest to the river. The weather prospects are to expect to see some showers today and heavy rain overnight and into Tuesday.”

Film crews from ITV and Sky News were taken out on the river by crews from Teddington RNLI yesterday, February 10.

Operations manager Tim Ody said: “The river is so high in some parts – we cannot get up to Hampton Court Bridge.

“There is nothing we can do about it and the Thames is the only drain for all this water.”

In nearby Kingston river levels have approached their highest levels in 31 years.

At 8.30am the river in Kingston was 5.39m high, well above the normal level but below the highest ever recorded - 5.71m. Call Floodline on 0845 9881188 using quickdial 173122 for up-to-date flooding information.
