Three Labour Party candidates in Heathfield have launched a campaign for bus and train links in the area to be improved.

Rhonda Evans, Craig Owen and Rob Newbery have contacted executives at Transport for London (TfL) and South West Trains, urging action.

The candidates have proposed a direct bus to Whitton via Powder Mill Lane and requested TfL executives do a feasibility study.

They also called for improvements to the frequency and punctuality of the 110 and H22 bus services.

Mr Owen said: “Under successive administrations, the area has been left behind when it comes to investment in public transport.

“We are currently gathering signatures from residents to present to TfL and we hope to receive a response to our enquiries soon.”

They also contacted South West Trains to discuss improved capacity and reliability of services up until the end of the franchise in 2019 and for a clean-up of Whitton station.
