Visitors to Kew Bridge Steam Museum will be able to crawl through sewage tunnels when it re-opens in March after a £2.3m revamp.
The museum, home to some of the world’s rarest working steam engines, will also open under a new name - the London Museum of Water and Steam - on March 22.
The refurbished museum will take visitors on a journey through London’s pipe and tunnel works and features crawl-through tunnels and walk-through sewers.
The Heritage Lottery Fund awarded the Kew Bridge Engines Trust £1.8m in July 2012, which enabled it to start restoration work and additional funding was gained from Thames Water, Hounslow Council, the Garfield Weston Foundation and the Charles Hayward Foundation.
