Embroidery graduates from the Royal School of Needlework partnered with a top menswear designer.

E Tautz Menswear collaborated with the students for their latest collection, which showcased clothes embellished with intricate hand embroidery at fashion show London Collections: Men.

The students at the University for the Creative Arts, based at Hampton Court Palace’s needlework school, created their own designs for the E Tautz brief along with the design team.

E Tautz designer Felix Chabluk Smith said: “The degree students at the Royal School of Needlework have the technical expertise to interpret and translate our designs to the professional level that we expect for E Tautz.

“They also have immense creative ability and a confidence to go above and beyond our initial designs – we wanted them to exceed our expectations, and they really did.”

All the degree students and staff at the needlework school were involved with the project, which took more than 300 hours to complete.

Course leader Angie Wyman said: “This has been an exciting collaboration with E Tautz, bringing contemporary hand embroidery to the catwalk of London Collections: Men.

“The students worked collectively on the project; many of the embroideries were worked by groups of embroiderers to maintain the cohesive visual signature necessary for the collection.

“This is one of the hallmarks of the Royal School of Needlework. Our embroiderers are trained to work collectively on a project yet it will look like the work of one person.

“The work for E Tautz continues to uphold that tradition in the most contemporary manner.”
