An Olympic rower inspired Teddington schoolchildren to be the best they can during a visit last week.

Two-time world champion rower Toby Garbett met staff and pupils at Sacred Heart School, in St Mark’s Road, to launch an Olympic legacy programme called be the best you can be.

The scheme aims to inspire, engage and empower young people to pursue their dreams and develop their potential.

Garbett shared his experiences with the schoolchildren and let them try on some of his training kit during his visit on Friday, January 24.

Headteacher Michael Thompson said: “I was determined that our school would be one of the schools to undertake the Be the Best You Can be programme as it begins to roll out nationally.

“The inspiration offered by high achievers including Olympians, Paralympians who strive to achieve their dreams is incredibly powerful and can really reach out and engage our young people.

“I am pleased to welcome Toby Garbett to launch our programme and my teachers and I look forward to delivering this exciting and transformational programme.”
