Richmond was hit by the mini-tornado that tore through London and the south-east on Saturday.

According to London Fire Brigade, 15 trees in the borough were affected by the high winds that hit around 5pm on Saturday.

In Andover Road, Twickenham, a loft conversion’s roof was torn off and blown on to their neighbour’s roof.

Crew manager Ian Devine, from Twickenham fire station, said: “We had to cut the roof into sections and lower it down.

“The people in the house were very lucky that most of the roofing came down in the front garden.”

The adverse weather also resulted in the abandonment of Harlequins’ LV= Cup match against Leicester Tigers on Saturday.

Referee Gwyn Morris took the teams off the Stoop pitch after advertising hoardings and debris were blown on to the field.

The match was suspended after 70 minutes, with Quins winning 20-6. The competition’s organising committee decided this morning that the result will stand.

In Lisbon Avenue, Twickenham, a tree was partially uprooted and firefighters were called to prevent it falling down completely.

It was secured and the area was cordoned off while the work was carried out.

A tree collapsed at the Palm Garden Centre in Ham, shattering the glass of a greenhouse.

Doug Mitchell tweeted: “Storm hit Ham Palm Centre. Greenhouse totalled. Luckily no customers nearby.”

Also posting on Twitter, Paul Adams said: “Stunning, sudden storm in Richmond Park. Almost comically scary.”

Josh Moss posted: “Pretty sure a hurricane has just hit Twickenham.”

A tree in Marble Hill Park crashed on to the Lodge residential estate, close to Richmond Bridge.

The incident caused structural damage to the roof but nobody was hurt.

A large tree was also torn down in Carlisle Park, Hampton.
