Jazz night a fighting event for Bull's Head's official reopening
An iconic jazz venue and pub in Barnes has reopened after a £1m revamp, despite adversity from some music lovers.
The Bull’s Head, in Lonsdale Road, which was taken over by Geronimo Inns last year, officially opened this week with a jazz performance from singer Claire Martin.
The pub quietly opened in December, but owners presented it to local people and musicians with a one-off launch event on Wednesday, January 22.
The refurbishment was met with anger from campaigners last year who said relocating the jazz room to the Thai restaurant behind the pub would destroy the venue’s 54-year music legacy.
Managing director of Geronimo Inns Ed Turner said: “We feel that with the revamped Bull’s Head we have been able to create a pub that is worthy of the residents of Barnes.
“We have fully respected the history of the pub, and have created a venue fit for the next generation of jazz and pub lovers.”
The venue, which has seen performances from Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood, has retained the original bar, added a dining room, two private dining rooms and a self contained jazz room with its own bar.
