Christmas commuter chaos as Richmond is battered

Christmas commuters faced travel chaos this morning after wind and rain battered Richmond overnight.

South West Trains' services have been severely disrupted due to blocked lines and adverse weather conditions, with no trains running before 10am.

Their website says that they "aim to run an hourly" service in both directions between Richmond and Wimbledon via Kingston.

The same hourly timetable applies to the Hounslow loop and trains to and from Windsor and Reading, stopping at Twickenham and Richmond.

Trees around the borough have blown down with some still blocking roads including one in Church Road, Teddington and two in the Avenue, Kew, one of which is in St Lukes Church car park.

Queen's Ride (B306) in Barnes is currently blocked due to a fallen tree.

Percy Road in Hampton is closed because of a level crossing failure.

Ice staking at Hampton Court Palace will not open until 4pm due to the weather.

People who had sessions booked at 10am, 11am, 12.15pm, 1.30pm and 2.45pm will be automatically refunded to the payment card used within 10 working days.

Twickenham Ice Rink, outside York House, is open as normal.

Kew Gardens was due to close on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day regardless of the weather but it announced that it has cancelled its Christmas at Kew event.
