A pub quiz master has triumphed on Ken Bruce’s BBC Radio 2 Popmaster challenge after correctly identifying an obscure number 40 in the charts in 1979.
Andy Moseley, a creative writing tutor from Kingston, correctly identified The Merton Parkas’ song You Need Wheels, writes Charlotte Tobitt.
He chose cover versions over American number ones as his specialist subject during the run-up to his victory on Friday.
Mr Moseley, who runs a creative writing course at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington, said: “The other guy had been doing really well.
"He got one point more than me earlier in the week and he seemed to know everything.
“I missed a couple of questions and thought that’s it, it’s all over now.
"But then I was delighting in someone else’s misery.”
Earlier in the week Mr Moseley said he was fairly confident that he would not make it to the final, describing himself as the underdog.
Thirty-four years ago he was the youngest person to reach the semi-final of the Quiz Kid competition, also on Radio 2.
He said: “That’s a long wait and possibly a sad statistic.”
