A man who failed to stop after crashing his boss’s car while drunk was fined, handed a community order and banned from driving.

Robert Philbrooks, 45, of Borland Road, Teddington, admitted driving while drunk and failing to stop after an accident when he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Stanley Amah said Philbrooks, who worked as a driver, was travelling home from Fulham when his boss’s red Ford Transit smashed into a silver Toyota in Kingston Road, Teddington, on November 30.

He said: “Mr Philbrooks had started drinking in the morning. He said [to police] he has been drinking all day.

“He then got into his boss’s vehicle and drove home. He had no recollection of the accident and said the first thing he remembered was being asked questions by the police. He said he was sorry for his actions.”

The court heard Philbrooks had previous convictions of failing to provide specimens, driving disqualifications and had also been in jail before for driving offences.

The court heard his boss also sacked him as a result of the incident.

Philbrooks was handed a year-long community order to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work when he appeared at court on Tuesday, December 17.

He was also disqualified from driving and ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge, £85 in costs and a fine of £75.
