People troubled by damaged pavements can get their hands on a pot of council cash to transform their street.

There is £490,000 available as part of the community roads and pavements fund, on top of usual maintenance work carried out by the council and residents have been urged to nominate suitable roads.

The streets with the highest number of nominations will win funding.

Peter Newall, of Pagoda Road, Richmond, got the pavements in his street replaced in the final round of funding.

He said: “The community roads and pavements fund is a great tool for local residents to highlight where improvements or repairs may be necessary – areas the council may not have noticed before.

“It is a quick and painless process to nominate a street, a pavement or just a pothole, and the residents of Pagoda Avenue are really happy with the quality and speed of the work that has been done.

“Any other people living in the borough who want to see their roads fixed should take this opportunity to apply to the fund and make sure as many of their neighbours as possible support their application to see their street transformed.”

The deadline for nominations is December 13 and forms can be picked up from libraries or filled out online at richmond.gov.uk/fund.
