Twickenham gold winner represents 70s at anniversary celebrations
A former Duke of Edinburgh gold award winner has been chosen to represent the 70s at the 500th gold awards ceremony.
Steve Campbell, who works for CACI near Twickenham Green, received his gold award in 1974.
And he was honoured to represent the 1970s at Thursday’s ceremony.
He said: “I am so proud to have been selected above all others.
“It will probably be one of the Duke’s last award ceremonies so that makes it all the more special.
“I have great memories from my involvement in the scheme and have maintained an interest throughout the years.”
The ceremony took place yesterday (October 10) at St James’s Palace and Mr Campbell, who is from Greenford, said among his highlights from the awards scheme was a trip to Australia.
He added: “We went over as part of the scheme in 1979 to promote community projects.
“It is a fantastic thing to be part of and I would encourage all young people to get involved in the scheme.”
