Mad dogs, Englishmen, and everyone else are invited to Thames Ditton’s Vera Fletcher Hall this month where the humour of Noel Coward is being celebrated.
Gordon Peters, an entertainer and actor who has appeared in shows such as Little Britain and Dad’s Army, presents an evening of songs and anecdotes about the playwright, composer and wit.
Peters, who lives in Surbiton, says: “The more I researched his life the more excited and respectful I became. Noel Coward did it all. Words and music. He only had one piano lesson yet he could see the music he wanted put down on paper.
“There are so many funny anecdotes about him. Before filming Our Man in Havana he had to be examined for insurance purposes. The doctor came to him at the Savoy. After the examination the doc said: ‘Just one last thing Mr Coward. A specimen of urine please’.
‘Oh no I couldn’t. Impossible.’
‘Oh come Mr Coward just a small teaspoonful.’
‘I haven’t a teaspoon on me.’
“Also of course there will be several opportunities for the audience to join in.”
