Tax evaders targeted in Kingston, Richmond and Elmbridge
Construction companies which cheat their tax bills are being targeted in Kingston, Richmond and Elmbridge.
Businesses in Kingston, Richmond, Surbiton, New Malden, Worcester Park and Elmbridge will see specialist teams aim to recover £3m through examining traders’ records, and carrying out other investigations.
Another task force announced today will tackle tax evasion in the security industry in London.
Since 2011-12 the taskforces are said to have found more than £90m in unpaid taxes and they expect to match this figure in each of the next three years.
David Gauke, exchequer secretary to the treasury, said: “We are determined to support hardworking people who want to get on, but the people being targeted by these taskforces have no intention of playing by the rules.
“This Government has made it clear that we will not tolerate tax evasion and we have provided HMRC with the resources to crack down on those who break the rules.”
